Planning the family vacation can be a nightmare of sufficient proportions
to make some people simply stay at home. Instead of spending hours on hold with
airlines in search of the best deal, making dozens of calls to find cheapest rates hotels in search
of the one that meets all the family’s needs, and searching endless Web
sites for the best deals, consider turning the process over to a professional.
There are dozens of companies aimed at creating custom vacation packages and
finding the best deal for your family could be as easy as one contact.
Start by making a list. If the dates for travel are written in stone, make that
clear to the agent or company working on your vacation package. Sometimes, there
are discounts for traveling on weekdays or during off-peak seasons. By the same
token, seats during peak travel hours will be at a premium.
The destination is an important part of the vacation package, but consider alternatives
if you are seeking to keep the cost down. Hotels at a lesser-known tourist destination
will probably be less expensive and easier to come by. Remember to mention any
special needs – adjoining rooms with connecting doors, baby crib or handicap
accessible rooms.
If you plan to do sightseeing, remember to ask for transportation – a
rental car or guided tours with transportation. Again, if special accommodations
are needed – car seats for children or handicap accessible vehicles –
mention those at the time of booking.
Theme parks, shows or events at or near the destination can be included in the
vacation package. Sometimes, hotels offer discounts for patrons who are visiting
those parks or events.
While it could be a little less expensive to find and book your own tickets,
transportation and accommodations, handing the process over to an expert could
save a significant amount of time on the phone, leaving more time to decide
which bathing suit and which evening dress to pack!
